Onyinye Onyemobi is a program associate in the West Africa office and a longtime advocate for human rights, youth empowerment, peace, and security.

Prior to joining Ford, she was a program coordinator for the STOP Torture (SPCL) project at Amnesty International Nigeria, where she worked with stakeholders on police reform to build capacity of civil society groups to monitor, report, and provide legal support for victims of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment (CIDT). In that position, she also worked with university law faculties to set up human rights clinics and promote the inclusion of university students in human rights advocacy and activism.

Earlier in her career, she served as an international adviser for the Open Society Youth Initiative’s youth policy evaluation series for Liberia and as a program officer for public safety and security at the CLEEN Foundation. She was a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan’s Youth Violence Prevention Center in 2015, where she shared ideas and experiences from her community development project on youth crime and violence prevention in Nigeria.

Onyinye holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Lagos and a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from the University of Nigeria.
